At Johnsfort, we believe in creating unforgettable memories for our guests, immersing them in authentic Irish experiences on our Five-Day Farm Stay. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a lovely group that embraced everything our farm and the Boyne Valley had to offer. Their second day with us was particularly magical, filled with unique moments that captured the true essence of rural life and Irish heritage.
A Morning on the Farm
The day began with a tour of our organic farm, a core part of the Johnsfort experience. Our guests had the opportunity to meet our Highland cattle up close, marvelling at their gentle nature and distinctive shaggy coats. But the highlight of the morning? Feeding Chuck Norris, our much-loved Valais ram, his daily treat—a digestive biscuit! His enthusiasm for his snack always brings smiles to our guests.
After this, they collected freshly laid eggs from our hens, enjoying the simplicity and joy of farm life. There’s something special about gathering eggs, still warm from the nest, and knowing they’ll soon be part of a delicious meal.
Brown Bread and Tea in Our Home
Following the farm tour, our guests were welcomed into our cosy farmhouse, greeted by the mouth-watering aroma of fresh home baking. The warmth of a log fire, the scent of tea brewing, and the sight of home-baked treats created an inviting atmosphere. We shared stories over tea, and they even joined in a brown bread-making experience. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of kneading dough by hand, knowing you’ll enjoy the fruits of your labour later on.
Exploring Newgrange and Knowth
After a relaxing morning, our guests were whisked away to explore two of Ireland’s most extraordinary sites—Newgrange and Knowth. These ancient monuments, dating back 5,000 years, never fail to impress, offering a glimpse into Ireland’s rich history. As part of their experience, they met An Gobha, the blacksmith of The Boyne Valley. This wasn’t just any ordinary tour—it was a theatrical, hands-on experience blending myth, history, and craftsmanship. Our guests were captivated by the stories and thrilled to get involved in this unique aspect of Irish heritage.
An Evening of Comfort and Good Food
After a day exploring the wonders of The Boyne Valley, our guests returned to the warmth of Marianne Cottage, where the smell of a home-cooked meal welcomed them. The log stove was crackling, the table was set, and they were ready to enjoy a truly Irish feast. Our complimentary Johnsfort Beef & Guinness Stew, served with creamy colcannon, was the perfect way to end the day. Paired with a delicious dessert, it was a meal to remember, bringing everyone together to share their stories of the day.
The Perfect End to an Irish Day
As our guests relaxed by the fire, they reflected on the day’s adventures—the charm of farm life, the thrill of exploring Ireland’s ancient past, and the joy of sharing a meal made with care and tradition. For them, it was the perfect day, and for us, it was a pleasure to share our home and heritage with them.
