The Story of Marianne Cottage
More than 200 years old, Marianne cottage is a two bedroom cottage newly renovated with lots of modern luxury while retaining its old cottage feel with pre-existing limestone walls and cut stone arch.
It has one double bedroom en suite and a twin room (can be made into superking size bed if requested in advance). There is a large open plan kitchen living dining area, a main bathroom and a serarate utility room. It forms part of an old farmyard with an abundance of old stone buildings. Our country cottage is a spacious 80m sq with many interesting unique features. The main room boasts a huge stove with firewood provided. It is perfect for those cold winter nights and warm summer evenings. It has a cathedral ceiling and architectural features such as the original exposed stone arch, steel beams and salvaged sliding doors giving it industrial charm.
Industrial Style
We take great pride in both Marianne Cottage and Bartholomew’s Loft. In their look and style, their differences from other places and most of all the comfort and enjoyment our guests get from them. At Marianne Cottage you can curl up in front of the log stove at the end of your day and enjoy the peace and quiet as you admire the original stone walls with arch intact, exposed steel beams and double height ceiling.
Bright Bold Colours
The cottage and loft are very spacious and have everything you need to have a relaxed, comfortable stay. The deep blue kitchen was handmade from wood and recycled brewery pipes. It has a fridge, full cooking facilities and espresso and filter coffee machines. We also have clothes washing and drying facilities in the utility room. The cottage has its own patio area for sitting out on to watch the glow of the sunset beyond the trees.
Comfort and Warmth
Both bedrooms are warm, snug and cosy. The main double bedroom has an en suite with a wet room. Mattresses were made by a local company and ensure a great night’s sleep. We source our soap from a small local company who use goat’s milk from their own goats. The twin bedroom can be made into a super-king size bed if necessary. The main bathroom with its bright red subway tiles, has a bath and shower.
Description
We took great pleasure from renovating this 200 year old forge and labourer’s cottage. The roof was collapsing, the chimney was exposed and unstable and the lean to had caved in. Cutting back the ivy removed lots of the stones and the mini digger was there for days removing dirt and old rotten furniture.
In salvaging the walls and the arch and rebuilding the chimney stack we gradually brought this beautiful stone building back to life. We retained its original charm and accentuated its best features. We took care and precision when selecting artwork, furniture and soft furnishings so as not to lose the wealth of character that this cottage has to offer.
We look forward to meeting you and showing you the fruits of our labour. We invite you to come and stay with us and to make yourselves a part of the story of Johnsfort and in particular Marianne Cottage.
