As April fades and longer evenings stretch out across the countryside, Johnsfort comes alive in May. It’s one of the most beautiful times of year on the farm, a month where cherry blossoms bloom in soft pink clouds, lambs wobble through the fields, and slow travel finds its perfect rhythm.
A Farm in Full Bloom
May is when the farm shows its gentlest side. The cherry blossoms outside the cottage windows add a splash of colour and a sense of calm. Guests often find themselves lingering longer in the garden or stepping out after dinner to catch the golden light as it fades behind the fields.
Our lively lambs are also not shy in introducing themselves. As they grow, their personalities grow with them.

The Beauty of Daily Life
Life at Johnsfort follows the rhythm of the land. In May, that rhythm slows just a little, inviting guests to do the same. Mornings begin with fresh eggs from our free-roaming bantam hens (collected by us or the kids), and a walk through dew-covered fields.
Evening means feeding the Highland cows, Ború, Grace, and Constance, and watching the sun set behind them as they graze. These are quiet but powerful moments. And they’re the ones our guests remember most.

A Natural Connection: Loughcrew Cairns
Just 15 minutes from Johnsfort, Loughcrew Cairns offers breathtaking views and a deep sense of history. This 5,000-year-old passage tomb sits high on a hill, blending ancient wonder with natural beauty.
We recently brought guests there on a sunny day, kids played among the stones, parents soaked in the stillness, and appreciated the natural beauty and history that surrounded them.
We really are lucky to have so much natural beauty and deep history on our doorstep. We love bringing our guests here.

The Joys of Everyday Living
At Johnsfort, it’s the little things that bring the biggest joy. Guests often arrive from fast-paced lives and find comfort in the simplicity of feeding the animals, collecting eggs, or wandering the garden paths. Our guest book is filled with stories of quiet mornings and heartfelt thanks for the chance to slow down.
As one guest wrote: “What a wonderful treasure you have here at Johnsfort! We loved the country life, if only for a few days.”
